Cancer Survivor Anurag Basu Was Among First Few To Know About Rishi Kapoor’s Illness By Ranbir; Says, ‘Shared My Doctor’s Number With Him’

Before Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor, many celebrities have been diagnosed with cancer. Amongst them was filmmaker Anurag Basu, who cheated the big C in 2004. Not many know, Jagga Jasoos director was suffering from acute promyelocytic leukemia, a type of blood cancer. On April 30, Rishi Kapoor succumbed to Leukemia after fighting a 2-year long battle. In his latest interview, Anurag Basu opened up about Ranbir Kapoor confiding in him about his late father.
During his conversation with Mumbai Mirror, when he was asked if Ranbir Kapor had confided in him about veteran’s cancer, he said, “He did. I was among the first few to know. We discussed what line of treatment he should take. I shared the number of my doctor with him and they spoke to him and told me what they had decided.”
He went on to reveal that when the Kapoor parivaar had returned from New York after the treatment, they all had dinner together just before Ranbir Kapoor's birthday on September 28. He told the tabloid, “Neetuji spoke about the treatment, Chintuji, like always, was in his element, trying to dig into the cake. Since he was not allowed to have sweets, Neetuji tried to keep him away and this led to a fight between them. It was very cute.”
A day after Irrfan Khan’s death on April 29, Rishi Kapoor breathed his last in the hospital. Amid the nationwide lockdown, Ranbir Kapoor performed father’s last rite at Chandanwadi crematorium at Marine Drive. The Kapoor parivaar later performed his tervi at his residence in Mumbai.
